FEATURED ARTIST: Jordan Bruner

Today, we are bringing you a new Featured Artist from Richmond, Virginia: Jordan Bruner, an artist and a filmmaker whose long-life passion for visual art stemmed from her artist mother. Growing up surrounded by creativity, she developed a unique dream-like style of her own using painting, collage and animation. Her brilliant, whimsical works contain elements of mythology, symbolism, visual metaphor, and her own personal experience which blended together create dazzling and striking visuals that have been showcased from the Los Angeles Film Festival to Pictoplasma in Berlin.

Since childhood, Jordan was drawn to painting, illustration and cinema so it’s no surprise she ultimately went on to pursue her studies in animation and filmmaking at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. In 2007, she moved to New York City to kick-start a career in animation which led her to work with notable clients such as the NYTimes, Google, Eve Ensler, Amazon, Linda McCartney Foods and the Atlantic. In 2013, she received the Art Directors Club Young Guns Award and has been honored by the Society of Illustrators and American Illustration. Jordan currently resides back in Virginia and works as an animation and art director for various clients in addition to the continued pursuit of her own creative projects in film and painting.

Check out this interview with Jordan Bruner from Playgrounds in which reminisces on her childhood passion and how she made it into a full-time job.

Jordan’s new gallery on Artcast is a well-rounded compilation highlighting her most recent series of paintings, Salt Lyfe, as well as illustrations pulled from her most notable animations such as Space Trip. Inspired by stories from her youth, Salt Lyfe features the Witch of Pungo and an array of other colorful characters and creatures all set amidst Southern Virginia’s varied landscape. How might the witch’s legend mingle with the modern Southern woman? That’s something for you to ponder as you explore Jordan’s brilliant and playful gallery!

Here is a peek at what’s now streaming from the Jordan Bruner gallery now on Artcast and the reel of her animation, Space Trip.
