FEATURED ARTIST: Tiffany Gholar

FEATURED ARTIST: Tiffany Gholar

‘I want to make something out of that’ is the motto that Chicago-based creative Tiffany Gholar lives by when creating her mixed media art. From objects such as packaging and old magazines to the dried paint in her palette, she will make something out of just about anything so long as it has an interesting color or texture which she can also paint.

Today we are more than excited to welcome Tiffany Gholar as our latest Featured Artist now streaming on Artcast and introduce you to her wonderful world of recycled art where she turns trash into treasures. Amongst her three primary bodies of work, we are showcasing “Post-Consumerism”, an eclectic mix of recycled textures and brilliant hues beautifully resurrected into pieces of art.

By working with and transforming useless objects that are the residue of our one-time-use material culture, she gives them a new sense of life and purpose calling it an assemblage of a peculiar yet a beautiful dream. She explains:

I imbue impermanent things with a new sense of permanence and purpose.  From the rhythmic interplay of light and shadow on corrugated cardboard, the dreamlike diaphanous nature of plastic shopping bags, the brilliant hues of the bottles that make our packaged beverages seem all the more appealing, every assemblage in the series is infused with its own peculiar beauty. And I call this style of working with the by-products of the products we buy Post-Consumerism.

Check out this video from inside her studio where she discusses “Post-Consumerism”, her other series “The Doll Project”, and her undeniable love of color.

Having obtained a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Art, Film and Fiction Writing at the University of Chicago, an A.A.S of Interior Design at Harrington College of Design, and a M.A. in Painting from Governors State University, it’s no surprise Tiffany’s work and accomplishments extend far beyond creating unique pieces of art. In addition to “mixed media artist”, she also holds the title(s) of interior designer, published author, and Jeopardy! Champion.

Tiffany’s work has been showcased in both group and solo exhibitions around Chicago and she received Book of the Year Award for Independent Fiction for her novel “A Bitter Pill to Swallow” from the Chicago’s Writers Association in 2016.

Here is a sample of her striking, candy-colored ‘post-consumerist’ creations from our newest gallery, Tiffany Gholar, now streaming on Artcast in the Contemporary Art category.
